Forex Working Hours

The Forex market is open 24 hours per day Monday through Friday. This is because at any given time, there is at least one time zone where banks and other financial institutions are open. The only times the market is closed are the weekends and the national holidays of countries (when institutions would not be open). Each weekly trading session begins at 23:00 GMT on Sunday in Tokyo, Japan and closes at 22:00 in Chicago, USA.

There are four sections into which the Forex market is divided - Australia, Asia, Europe and America. When the market is open activity moves following this pattern: Wellington, New Zealand – Sydney, Australia – Tokyo, Japan – Hong Kong, China – Singapore, Singapore - Frankfurt am Main, Germany – Zurich, Switzerland – London, United Kingdom – New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, the USA. This schedule ensures that while one continent may be sleeping, another one is up and running.
